GATE Holiday Masterclass, January 2027

What the holiday masterclass is

The January holiday block runs roughly six to eight intensive class days over the second and third weeks of January, immediately before Term 1 starts. Each day covers a different section deep-dive plus a timed practice round, with one full-length mock exam built in.

The masterclass is designed for two audiences. The first is the Year 6 student sitting the March GATE exam. This is the final structured preparation block before exam day, and the timing matters because the muscle-memory from January carries through into March. The second is a Year 5 student who wants to use the January holidays to consolidate before Term 1.

Format

Six to eight full days at Rossmoyne SHS (specific dates published mid-November 2026). Each day:

• Morning: deep-dive on one of the four GATE sections (Reading Comprehension, Written Expression, Quantitative Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning)
• Midday: timed practice round at full exam pace
• Afternoon: review, group discussion of common errors, individual feedback
• One day in the block is dedicated to a full-length, full-format mock exam under exam conditions

Group size is smaller than our weekly Term classes, capped to keep the individual feedback ratio meaningful given the intensity.

Should your child do the holiday masterclass?

For Year 6 students sitting the March exam: yes, almost always. The January block is short, focused, and immediately compounding because the exam follows just six to eight weeks after the January block ends. We see meaningful score lifts from this block even in students who've done extensive prep already. It's the “putting it all together under exam conditions” piece that's hard to do at home.

For Year 5 students: useful but not essential. If you can do it without burning out your child, it's a strong consolidation. If your child is already running our Term 4 program, the holiday block is the cherry on top, not a make-or-break.
