Year 5 GATE Classes in Perth

In-person weekend classes at Rossmoyne Senior High School for Year 5 students sitting the WA GATE exam in March of Year 6.

The most common GATE prep cohort

Year 5 is the largest enrolment cohort in our classes by a long way. Families typically come in around mid-Year 5, work consistently through to March of Year 6, and sit the exam with roughly 6-9 months of structured preparation behind them. That window is realistic and effective: long enough to fix the section gaps that exist, short enough that focus stays high.

If your child is already past mid-Year 5, you can still get meaningful results. We have students who start in October of Year 5 and pass GATE comfortably the following March. The math is just tighter, and the platform-based at-home practice (free for term-enrolled families) becomes essential rather than optional.

Term 3 Year 5 curriculum

10 weekend classes from 25 July to 27 September 2026. Each session is 3 hours: 90 minutes Maths, 90 minutes English. Year 5 sessions go deeper and faster than Year 4, with full-difficulty examples and tight timing on Core Practice sets.

Across Term 3 we cover:

  • Quantitative Reasoning: single-item problem types (ratios, percentages, geometry) plus the data-interpretation set questions that catch most students out
  • Abstract Reasoning: series, matrices, analogies, and the harder “hidden rule” question family
  • Reading Comprehension: inference and tone questions, the question types where Year 5s most often plateau
  • Written Expression: image-prompt narrative writing under the real 25-minute time limit, marked against the official rubric every single week

What we expect from Year 5 students at home

In-class time is 3 hours a week, but the meaningful progress comes from at-home practice. Year 5 students who follow our routine typically log 3-4 weekday slots of 30 minutes each on the AsetPrep Premium platform (included free with class enrolment), plus 20 minutes of reading per day.

That sounds like a lot. It works out to about 4 hours of total weekly prep, which most Year 5 families can fit around schoolwork and sport without stress.

Enrol in Term 3 now

Term 3 spots are filling. Saturday morning sessions tend to fill first, then Sunday morning, then the afternoon sessions.
